My Eco-Home

Eco=Saving

I am blessed to live in a magical small town called Edinburg. 75 years ago the first Civilian Conservation Corp Camp was started here. There is no accident why I live here. ECO is about coming home, saving and stimulating new opportunity.

Everything about my home and how it was built with the intention of ECO, green and inexpensive. I am big on conserving things, however I am a fiscal conservative in being green. Not only was I fortunate to given this land for dirt cheap by neighbor but we built my home in the woods together with a design to be with nature as best a possible. Water, trees, dirt and localize materials were used. Oak straight off my property, reused cabinets, and thrift store furnishings. One of my decks is made out of recycled plastic wood from Winchester just 45 minutes up the road. Local pine was used in a board and bat fashion outside from a saw mill a few miles away costing me around two thousand dollars.

Energy conservation was another thing were I weatherstriped, caulk and insulated everywhere I can. Also I designed passive solar since I did not want to go more active taking to many of my beloved cooling trees down. I keep my house at 54 degrees and have my hot water heater on vacation. When I shower I save my water for my wood stove or outside plants.

Years ago I came to this spot when I was helping form a organic food coop. My dream was to have a beautifull spot and be ECO For the last four years I have attempte dto get full time work in promoting conservation, however this has not prevented my passion. Over half my life I have help advance the recycling oil, preserving our drinking water and other endeavors to create a more healthy climate.

Now, we can create new prosperity that not only saves our nation but but creates a new green commerce. Conservation work can offer a tremendous economic opportunity – but only if we take advantage of this huge potential enterprise.

Today, these conservation industries generate 8.5 million jobs and nearly $1 trillion in annual revenue in the United States, and they contain some of the fastest growing sectors in the economy. If America fails to invest in renewable energy and energy efficiency, it runs the risk of losing ground to global competitors. Other countries like Germany, Denmark, and China will take the lead and reap the economic benefits.

Let's create millions of new green jobs that America desperately needs. Jobs that can’t be outsourced and use the skills of today’s workers. Green jobs aren’t just the jobs of the future – they will revitalize our economy and our well being. In recovery, Americans will discover millions of new ways to reduce, reuse and recycle resources for our future.

Today I think my home is a simple of possibility. Our country is at its greatest when we see that people are in trouble and we respond by giving a hand making our world a better place. Today we Americans are in environmental trouble and need help ourselves. Now is the time to engage in Americans of all walks to save more and waste less. Whether citizens wish to lessen global warming or to beautify a neighborhood, people long to show they care. What better way to bring our community together then attract people from the city, suburbs and the countryside for example by working together planting trees. We need a ECO-infrastructure national campaign getting groups, organizations, governments, businesses of all facets to come together celebrating that by planting trees. We can enriched people of all walks with directly saving our land and invest in greater well being.

Citizens engaged in conserving our land allows Americans to directly show love of country. There is no better time or need then to challenge America of all walks to get ECO. Global warming, water pollution control, involving youth in civilian conservation and other benefit will result if we can create the opportunity to make this a reality.

There are other invaluable resources developed - our youth and the link that preserving our land helps our collective well-being. Let's learn from history and activate American youth to preserve their outdoors and plant new life. Children engage in conservation work and the importance of public service.

My town has Camp Roosevelt and celebrates the home of the CCC which was the single greatest conservation movement in history. By gettting the unemployed outdoors to save the land, FDR killed two birds with one stone. He alos commented that getting working on public works projects was creating individual shareholders in our country's future. Interesting I built this house when I did not have full time work and today I am still search for full employment. However, my home is paid off and gives the inspiration to make more my eco-dreams into reality. Eco is all about coming home to better clean my house for the next generation. Check out below the way it looks!
